Online Therapy NJ & PA
Don’t Let Distance Hinder Your Mental Health Journey. Online Therapy in NJ & PA with The Therapy Gal—your trusted partner for personalized healing and growth.
Is distance getting in the way of your mental health?
Appointments can be a lot. For those with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or life transitions, the departure from routine and the need to schlep yourself to another place can feel like a weight sitting on your chest. Even if you don’t have a diagnosable condition, life can get in the way and make a special trip to a different place or part of town more trouble than it feels worth.
The cool thing about modern technology is that it lets us do all kinds of things from home, and you should be able to make the most of the comfort and convenience of that in all aspects of your life. But unfortunately, we hadn’t explored all the inventive ways to make that technology work for us until Covid-19 came around and made leaving home dangerous for the masses. Specifically, we moved many of our interactions from face-to-face to online or phone meetings.
Now, online therapy is a much more common thing. Many people who needed it didn’t know it was available, and still, more didn’t realize that it was a more palatable option than the one they had been using until that point. It’s quickly become the best option for those with compromised immune systems, busy schedules, or other accessibility challenges to get the care they need in the comfort they deserve.
What is Virtual Therapy?
Therapy, but virtually. Virtual therapy is a highly accessible and versatile form of therapy that seeks to work with the patient rather than making the patient jump through hoops to see a therapist.
Virtual therapy is commonly also called teletherapy, tele-mental health, e-therapy, or online counseling. The wide variety of options means that virtual therapy can be adapted to the needs of patients, making it extremely flexible for a range of therapies and conditions.
Although it seems like Covid-19 was the catalyst that made virtual therapy happen, it has been around in different forms for decades as the technology developed and improved. Therapists are always trying to find better ways to accommodate their patients and ensure they get the quality treatment they need.
How Does Online Therapy Work?
There are several different ways to do online therapy, including live video chatting, messaging, email, or over the phone. This puts a lot of power and control into the patient’s hands, giving them ultimate agency over their healing and growth journey.
The most important thing about therapy is getting the opportunity to talk and work with a therapist who can help you realize your goals. This means that you don’t have to be face-to-face to make significant progress. Online therapy gives you all the same benefits as face-to-face therapy, with added benefits around flexibility and control.
Your Therapist will work with you to create a schedule and a way of communicating that works with your way of thinking and living so that you get the most out of therapy.
Benefits of Online Therapy
Convenience: Don’t worry about travel time, traffic, or fitting a trip downtown into your schedule. Instead, find a quiet, calm room in your home, boot up your computer, and presto, you’re on with your therapist at The Therapy Gal. The convenience of online therapy makes it easier than ever before to start growing toward the person you want to be.
Accessibility: For those with compromised immune systems or accessibility concerns, online therapy works with you to ensure you get what you need in a format that suits you. In addition, you don’t have to worry about ensuring that a facility is friendly to you because your home already is.
For those living outside service areas or in rural locations, online therapy gives an easy way to still access services without driving for a few hours.
Privacy: Nowhere is as private as your home, and nowhere is as comfortable. Having your own personal therapy office within your home, without having to invite a person into your home, gives you ultimate control and privacy.
Comfort: Get all the same benefits you would get from face-to-face counseling without losing any time in traffic, or risking yourself, all while in your favorite chair with the heat just right. Online therapy has all the benefits and no detractions. This makes it a step above face-to-face therapy.
Is online therapy right for me?
Flexibility and convenience are baked right into online therapy. To be frank, there are very few people or conditions that online therapy can’t work well for, although it might ultimately come down to personal preference for some. For example, some people love talking face-to-face with other humans. Others are much more comfortable in their home’s safety, security, and comfort.
Online therapy is a great choice for people who:
- Live far from a city center and don’t have access to a therapist.
- Are uncomfortable meeting and interacting with a stranger in person.
- Have compromised immune systems.
- Need extreme flexibility in their schedules, or keep hours not normally accommodated by the therapist’s office, such as shift workers or caretakers.
- Don’t have time in their busy schedules for consistent trips to a therapist and prefer to do it through telecommunications.
- Care for a family with compromised immune systems.
- Have accessibility or safety concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions about Online Therapy (NJ and PA)
Online Therapy vs In Person Therapy: Which is more effective?
Online therapy, or teletherapy is just as effective as in person therapy. It can be more accessible, more convenient, and fit better within your schedule. Your therapist will be using a HIPAA compliant software that will ensure privacy and confidentiality.
How can I prepare for an online therapy session?
All you need is your phone, computer or tablet in order to join the session! We use a HIPAA compliant software that can be used on any of these devices. As long as you have wifi or phone reception- you can log on to your session.
What are the benefits of online therapy compared to traditional in-person therapy?
Teletherapy includes a lot more convenience for most people. Because everyone’s schedule is different, it is easier to find a time that works best for you and your therapist to meet. It also increases options for therapists. If you live in a rural area, you might not have as many options around you. Feeling comfortable with your online therapist is super important, and we believe that having more access to that is key!
